Clause 5 - Referendums: frequency
Regional Assemblies (Preparations) Bill
12:30 pm

Mr Nick Raynsford (Minister of State (Local and Regional Government), Office of the Deputy Prime Minister; Greenwich and Woolwich, Labour)
Before a second referendum could be triggered, the Government would have to take further soundings. Such soundings would have to indicate a real interest in holding a referendum. There are therefore safeguards against arbitrary repeats of referendums that would not change the outcome.
