It was a vegetarian fox; I know that. It never ate pheasant, or any ground-nesting bird in its life. I feel guilty that we shot it. Of course it ate pheasants; that is what foxes live on. That is why pheasant shooting depends on a low level of fox activity. Pheasants are not particularly clever birds. Pheasant lovers may disagree with me on that point. They are quite easily caught and they do not fly long distances. That is why gamekeepers kill foxes.
