Clause 58 - Orders on conviction in criminal proceedings
Police Reform Bill [Lords]
6:45 pm

Ms Annette Brooke (Mid Dorset and North Poole, Liberal Democrat)
I beg to move amendment No. 279, in page 54, line 33, leave out 'two years' and insert 'six months'.
Briefly, if there were the opportunity to have an ASBO rescinded after six months, that might focus the offender's mind on changing his or her behaviour in a shorter period, rather than waiting a full two years.

Mr John Denham (Minister of State (Police, Courts and Drugs), Home Office; Southampton, Itchen, Labour)
We are reluctant to make the change, but the hon. Lady has highlighted an anomaly in the drafting of the legislation, so we shall table an amendment on Report, when we shall discuss the matter again.

Ms Annette Brooke (Mid Dorset and North Poole, Liberal Democrat)
I thank the Minister. I beg to ask leave to withdraw the amendment.
Amendment, by leave, withdrawn.
Clause 58 ordered to stand part of the Bill.
