I hear what the hon. Gentleman says, and I am not rigid about the language that I have adopted because I am trying to elaborate a general principle. For example, if the father in question, the person claiming the paternity leave, were David Beckham, it would be reasonable to ask whether he could start his period of leave on Monday rather than Saturday.
