Perhaps, taking up the example given by my hon. Friend the Member for Tatton, the hon. Gentleman could explain what could be investigated if the basis for dismissal was that the employee had punched the employer. What investigation would he expect the employer to undertake before giving the employee a written statement saying that he was on his way?
