asked the Home Secretary whether he will issue a statement on the working of the House to House Collections Act, 1939, up to the present time, showing the number of licences refused or revoked, the number of prosecutions and convictions, and the number of self-styled charities known to have ceased operations since the Act was passed; and whether he is satisfied that his own powers, and those of the police, to deal with fraudulent charities are adequate?

As the Act referred to is administered locally, I regret that I am not in a position to issue a statement such as my hon. Friend suggests; but the information available to me indicates that this Act is proving a valuable Measure in enabling adequate control to be maintained over charitable appeals.
