Business of the House

Brandon Lewis (Great Yarmouth, Conservative)
Great Yarmouth has inherited historically high unemployment rates, so it is pleasing to see that since March unemployment in Great Yarmouth has fallen by 3%. Schemes such as enterprise zones, the youth contract, apprenticeships and work experience are clearly having a positive impact in my constituency. Will the Leader of the House find time for a debate to discuss how we might take such schemes even further, so as to have higher falls in unemployment in the future?

You need no debate Mr. Lewis you know what is needed, SORT OUT THE OUTER HARBOUR make it what the Grants were given for, The people that are unemployed in Yarmouth are not skilled engineers YOU admit that GET THE FERRY HERE which is what we paid for then the rank and file, ordinary folk will get a job. Such selfishness on your part over not banging the Port Owners Counter deserves an Oscar

Brandon you are once again using a statistic that needs some proof of acuracy which I queried on a previous occasion when you had no figures to back up the actual reasoning and were unable to find the precise statistics to back up your point.
I do rejoice in the the drop but let us be sure of the reasons.
Yarmouth has had higher than average unemploymnent figures for as long as I can remember but the period you quote is when it is inherant for unemployment to decrease because it is the start of the tourist season. They usually move up again at the end of the season.
The statistics I require are jobs provided here in this period and listing whether they are so called apprenticeships, work experience , youth contract.or normal full time employment giving actuial numbers and job description. These would obviously need to be new jobs taken on by the unemployed.
You cannot make the claims you do without knowing this information as it will be impossible to guage benefits to the community Withut the proof your reasons are worthless.
We were once before led to believe the outer harbour would provide 1000 jobs and the council actually printed a schelule of sailings for the ferry.
